Bathrooms

Wickes recently published its Great Bathroom Report, which found that the top three bathroom trends are: luxury hotel bathroom – less about functionality, more about aesthetics;  items that will look good and last a long time; and tailor made bathroom lighting.

Once just a place to perform the necessities of life, the bathroom is now as important as the kitchen, living room or bedroom. When Wickes asked what colour people would most like to use in a bathroom upgrade, almost 30% of 18 to 34-year-olds picked out green.

Panelling in bathrooms is a trend that people would most like to see from the 70s. (product here).

The older people get, the more they favour functionality. Practicality is the most important consideration for a third of people over 65 (35%).

New ranges of suites, tiles and accessories have recently arrived at Wickes; check out the new bathroom brochure here.

Cork flooring

Cork flooring is making a comeback - anticipated to be a prominent style trend in the UK for 2025, driven by its sustainability, aesthetic appeal, and functional benefits.

Cork flooring gives a softer underfoot feel, making it comfortable to walk on, but it also provides natural soundproofing qualities, making it ideal for apartments and multi-storey homes. Cork is harvested from the bark of cork oak trees, which regenerates, making it a renewable resource. Plus, it’s hypoallergenic, resistant to mould and mildew, and has an inviting, warm texture that’s perfect for cosy spaces like bedrooms and home offices.

As environmental consciousness grows, homeowners are increasingly opting for sustainable materials. Cork, harvested from the bark of cork oak trees without harming them, is a renewable resource.

Statement ceilings

Statement ceilings have emerged as a prominent interior design trend in the UK for Winter 2025. This design approach transforms ceilings into focal points through bold colours, intricate patterns, and unique textures. This ‘fifth wall’ can be a critical element in adding character to rooms.

Textured ceilings: texture is a game changer, and it’s one of the top interior design trends 2025 has to bring. Plain walls and ceilings will play second fiddle to more intricate detailing as we seek more sensorial design elements.

Ceiling murals: We’ll see a return of decorative plaster finishes on walls, textured wallpaper designs and thoughtful details like wood panelling. We’ll even see more consideration for ceilings, particularly in large spaces where a ceiling mural will be beneficial to adding interest and intrigue.

Patterned ceilings: Wallpapering ceilings also open up a whole world of opportunities, with so many different ways you can pull off this trend. It’s a maximalist’s dream, but it can work just as well in a minimalist space as long as you keep the walls clean and simple.
