FAQs

What does our tiling installation service include?

Our tiling installation service is available with both kitchen and bathroom installations.

The minimum tiling installation charge is for 5m²; however, we can install smaller amounts at the same cost.

Tile installation charges include adhesive, white plastic trim and standard grout colours (white on walls and grey for floors).

If you'd prefer a non-standard grout colour or alternative trim this will need to be purchased separately.

Prior to your installation, your Wickes-approved installer* will contact you to introduce themselves and arrange a detailed technical survey to check that everything is in order.

Our Installers follow rigorous health and safety guidance during the installation with full public liability insurance.

*Our Wickes-approved installers are third-party contractors. We vet and approve all installers and their projects prior to their instruction.

Can I have underfloor heating installed?

Yes, we can install underfloor heating with your new tiles and with most flooring.

What does our internal doors installation service include?

Our door installation service is available with both kitchen and bathroom installations.

Your installation quote includes removal of the existing door and installation per door of three hinges, door handles and mortice latch: the door will need to be purchased from Wickes but hardware items can be purchased from a third party.

Door linings, architrave, door accessories and skirting can also be installed and your Design Consultation will discuss all your project requirements before giving you a quote.

Are there any internal doors we can’t install?

Unfortunately we do not fit into locations which require a fire door to be installed such as:

• Between a house and connected garage

• Doors connecting to a stairwell in a house with 3 or more habitable floors

Picking the right tiles for your project

Here are some top tips on what to think about when choosing your new tiles:

• What area are you planning to tile?

• What’s your preferred colour scheme?

• Have you thought about the tile size? Extra large tiles can seem unsuitable for small rooms but larger formats in smaller spaces will give you an illusion of a bigger room, with fewer grout lines.

• Have you thought about the finish of your tiles? Do you prefer gloss, matt or natural stone finishes?

• Would you prefer a coordinating or matching style? We offer a wide selection of both, so you can create your perfect look

• How easy to maintain would you like your tiles to be? Ceramic and porcelain tiles are easy to look after and don’t require any special maintenance.

What’s the difference between porcelain and ceramic tiles?

Known as the most durable type of tile, porcelain is harder, denser, tougher and less porous than ceramic. It also has a very low water absorption rate, meaning it's virtually impervious to water damage, even after prolonged exposure.

Tips on how to measure for your new tiles

Step one:

Measure the surface area that needs to be covered. For a rectangular shaped area, measure the length and width in metres and multiply these values together. This will give you the square metre coverage. For an irregular shaped area, try breaking the area into smaller rectangles.

Calculate the area of each rectangle as above and add the values together to calculate the total square metres required. Don’t forget to consider doors, windows and fitted units when calculating areas.

Step two:

We highly recommend adding an additional 10-20% (depending on the size of the tiles, i.e. 20% for larger tiles) to the total area in order to allow for any cuts or breakages that may occur during the installation process. We also recommend that you keep any surplus tiles following the completion of your installation, in case of any accidental damage that may occur in the future.

Step three:

Divide the area you need to cover by the square metre coverage of the box of tiles you wish to use. This will give you the number of boxes of tiles required. Our handy tile calculator will help you work out how many boxes of tiles you need.
