Doors

Oak veneer remains the preferred choice for internal doors, maintaining its position for many years. Oak veneer doors introduce natural beauty and warmth to a room, creating a welcoming atmosphere.

White interior doors hold a significant place as a staple choice, ranking second in popularity. Their versatility serves as a blank canvas, allowing for the creation of vibrant colour schemes or bright, fresh and airy style.

Black internal doors are still having a moment, especially when it comes to getting the industrial look. Steel look doors (also known as Crittall style doors) are increasingly popular in contemporary homes with their clean lines and aesthetic appeal. Black makes a great contrast with soft colours such as pinks or peaches.

Deep teals and rich blues are still a top trend, so doors can also be painted in a vibrant shade whilst keeping the rest of the room more neutral. This can work to draw the eye through the room and create a focal point. The best paint for interior doors is either gloss or a semi-gloss paint such as satinwood.

Flooring

Popular flooring types currently include luxury vinyl tiles, waterproof laminate flooring and engineered wood flooring. There’s been a noticeable shift away from grey flooring towards more natural wood effect flooring, bringing the warmth and charm of nature into their living spaces.

The combination of the natural wood look and darker colour schemes has dominated the flooring design landscape in 2024, offering a timeless and enduring appeal. This trend mixes darker colour schemes, with deep, rich tones such as mahogany, walnut, and dark oak becoming more popular choices. These darker colours provide a sense of sophistication and elegance, creating a stylish and luxurious atmosphere within the home.

This trend caters to the desire for a warm, inviting, and organic aesthetic in interior design, reflecting a shift towards a more nature-inspired and environmentally conscious approach to home decor.

Garden

Although this is getting the garden ready for spring rather than winter, planting bulbs now ensures a beautiful outdoor space when the weather warms up.

Good spring-flowering bulbs include daffodils, crocus and hyacinths, although tulips should not be planted before November, as they'll be less likely to get the fungal disease tulip fire.

Bulbs should be planted deeply in the soil or earth, roughly three times the height of the bulb.
