Kitschens

Yes we did spell that right!  ‘Kitschens’ are kitsch kitchens. The kitsch trend takes a classic kitchen and styles it, leaning into uniquely thrifted odds and ends and fun pops of paint – web searches are specifically increasing for ‘green kitchen paints’ and ‘retro pink kitchens.' The Pinterest Predicts report suggests that 2024 will be the year of ‘eclectic kitchen décor,’ which, according to forbes.com, has seen a 50% increase in Pinterest searches especially by Gen X and Boomers. Customers may be inspired to make more bold choices when undertaking kitchen renovations, which could mean an increase in them choosing more wacky paint colours and unique decor. Bear in mind that Wickes stores with a Dulux paint mixing service can mix kitchen paint for you in any colour.

Hot metals

Chrome and metallics are here to stay. Gen Z and Millennials are expected to adopt this trend the most and expected to be seen through fashion, home and lifestyles. The idea is to accessorise with metallics so that they are the focal point of a room.

Jazz revival

2024 is channelling the Jazz Age in decor, drawing inspiration from the lively spirit, bold creativity, and luxurious aesthetics that defined the era - coming alive through zigzags, chevrons, exotic woods, chrome, dark and moody colour palette.

Mediterranean vibe

As days get longer, tapping into a summer Mediterranean vibe at home is trending.  This new interior style is a modernist take on Mediterranean aesthetics, focusing on clean lines and a minimalist approach, which encourages relaxation and slow living. Aiming to strike a balance between simplicity and elegance, restrained hues are popular, like soft neutrals, calming whites and subtle greys.

Citrus colours have also grown in popularity, with lemon and lime hues making a refreshing combination and giving an upbeat feel.  From grapefruit pinks to electric yellows, bright shades have been popping up on social media feeds and trend reports more and more.
