Staircase parts explained
Remodelling your staircase is an effective way to provide your home with an instant facelift. Whether it brings a refreshed design to an existing room or is used as a complementary piece to a newly decorated room. Firstly, you need to determine which stairparts are required to build your staircase, and the function of each both practically and aesthetically.

Spindles: these vertical posts, of equal length, are the stairparts that connect the hand and base rails.
Handrails: this stairpart sits on top of the spindles to provide support to the staircase and as protection to its users both by providing a grip, reducing the chance of any falls.
Base rails: this stairpart sits on bottom of the spindles to provide support to the staircase.
Newel posts: this stairpart is bolted to the stairs and used to secure the handrail. A half newel can be used if the bannister ends in a wall or a newel drop is used in open landings giving the impression the newel goes through the floor to the ceiling below.
Accessories: you can personalise your newel posts through different accessories such as a flat cap or round ball top.
