FAQs
How do you insulate a garden shed?
To insulate a garden shed, you’ll want to start by choosing the suitable insulation material, whether that’s fibreglass or foam boards. To install the material, measure the walls, roof and floors so you can cut the insulation to the required dimensions. Starting with the walls, place the insulation between the studs and secure the material with staples or adhesive.
You can do the same for the roof but between the rafters instead. For the floor, you’ll need to place a moisture barrier prior to laying the insulation boards, before finishing it off by adding a plywood cover over the top. Lastly, seal any gaps or cracks using caulk or weatherstripping to maximise insulation performance.
Do you need planning permission for garden sheds?
As long as your shed meets or is below 2.5 metres tall, it's not taking up 50% of your garden and not being used as a living space, it is very unlikely that you’d need planning permission for a garden shed.
How do you move a garden shed?
Before you begin to manoeuvre your shed, make sure you’ve emptied it to make it as light and easy as possible. Next, make sure all anchored parts are detached before lifting it with a few strong individuals or using a dolly. If your shed is quite large, there’s always the option of professional movers who have the right equipment. Once it's placed in your desired location, make sure it's level and secured again so that you can continue using it as usual.
